Environmental monitoring of Lake Baikal

Discharges of pollutants

The discharges of the pollutants into the atmospheric air from the stationary sources are shown for the elological influence areas on the Baikal Lake – Central Ecological Areas (CEA), Ecological Atmospheric Influence Areas (EAIF) and Buffer Ecological Areas (BEA).

The industrial sector of the CEA comprises the enterprises of South Baikl and North Baikal industrial hub. Overall, the CEA hosts 195 industrial enterprises, as well as the enterprises in such sectors, as transporation, utilitie, tourism, etc, out of which 64 enterprises are included in the industrial sectors. The core industrial sectors of the BEA of the BNT included the Ulan-Ude, Gusinoozersky and Nizhneselenginsky Industrial Hubs, Kyakhta City and petrovsk-Zabaykalsk Citry. The EAIF of the BNt includes the 5 largests cities in the Irkutsk Region (Irkutsk, Angarsk, Usolye-Sibirskoye, Cheremkohovo, Shelekhov). The major contributors to the pollution of the atmospheric air of the BNT include the heat energy enterprises (TPP-1, TPP-9, TPP-10 (Angarsk City), Novo-Irkutskaya TPP, TPP-2 (Irkutsk City), TPP-11 (Usolye-Sibirskoye), TPP-12 (Cheremkhovo), TPP-5 (Shelekhov)).

Data Collection

The volumes of the dicharges in the citities and industrial centers of the BNT, according to the statistics reporting data, are presented in Tables 1-3 at the Figures.

Analysis

Overall, the stationary sources of the industrial enterprises of the CEA BNT, in 2012 discharged 10.0 thousad tons of pollutants (in 2010 – 6.5 thousand tons). Overall, the fixed sources of the industrial enterprises discharged into the atmospheric air of the industrial regions of the CEA BNT in 2012 69,553 tons of the pollutants (in 2010 – 87.4 thousand tons). Overall, in 2012 the fixed sources of the enterprises across the major industrial centers within the Irkutsk Region, included in the EAIF BNT, there was discharged 404.2 tons of the pollutants into the atmospheric air (in 2010 – 339.5 thousand tons).

Evaluation

In 2012, as compared to 2010 the anthropogenic impact on the environment of the Baikal Natural Territory from the industrial enterprises, located within the Baikal Natural Territory, there was an increase in the volumes of the discharges

Forecast

Due to the development of the industrial sector in the region and the expansion of the infrastructure of the tourism and recreation territories of the coastal area, there is expected the increase of the anthropogenic impact on the eco-system of the Baikal Lake.
