Law Federal legislation "Concerning the Protection of Baikal lake" as of 05.01.1999 No.94-FZ (revised on 06.28.2014) Chapter I. Basic provisions- The central ecological zone is the area that includes Lake Baikal and its islands, a water conservation area adjacent to Lake Baikal, and specially protected natural territories adjacent to Lake Baikal;
- The buffer ecological zone is the area outside the central ecological zone that includes the catchment area of Lake Baikal within the territory of the Russian Federation;
- The ecological zone of atmospheric influence is the territory outside the catchment area of Lake Baikal within the territory of the Russian Federation that covers up to 200 km to the west and northwest of the lake and where economic entities adversely affecting the unique ecological system of Lake Baikal are located.
In 2024, the Baikal Mile will be held from 6 to 8 June.

In 2024, the festival of ice sculptures on Lake Baikal is scheduled for the period from February 15 to 28. During these two weeks, the lake shore will turn into a real open-air museum, where everyone will be able to enjoy sculptural masterpieces created from ice.
The portal has been created for FSBI ”Informational and Analytical Center for Development of Water Bodies and Associated Properties” under the special program “Protection of Lake Baikal and Socio-Economic Development of the Baikal Natural Preserve for 2012-2020.”
