In 2022, work continued to protect the population from floods – the construction of dams. The Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia has signed contracts with the regions of the Far East for the construction of 11 water protection dams: four in Primorye, three in Buryatia, two in the EAO, one each in Yakutia and in Transbaikalia. This is 70% of the total "expenses" in this direction. The total amount of financing is 6.2 billion rubles.

This year, almost 22 thousand events of the "Water of Russia" campaign took place across the country, in which more than 1.3 million volunteers participated. The activists cleared more than 31 thousand kilometers of the coastal strip of water bodies, and the volume of garbage collected amounted to 148.9 thousand cubic meters.

Another "water project" for the preservation of Lake Baikal. Starting this year, the regions located on the Baikal Natural Territory will be able to receive subsidies not only for the construction, reconstruction and modernization of treatment facilities, but also for engineering surveys and preparation of project documentation. And also pay regional operators for the treatment of MSW for the elimination of illegal landfills that have a negative impact on the reservoir. We are talking about the Republic of Buryatia, the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Irkutsk Region.

"Preservation of Lake Baikal" is one of the federal projects included in the national project "Ecology". Its main goal is to improve the ecological condition of Lake Baikal by reducing the volume of polluted effluents into the lake and other reservoirs of the Baikal natural territory, as well as by cleaning polluted objects. Additional support will help the regions accelerate the construction of treatment facilities, which will preserve the unique ecosystem of the lake," Alexander Kozlov said.

This year, work began on the reconstruction of sewage treatment plants in Ulan-Ude, the largest settlement that has a direct impact on the Selenga River and Lake Baikal. The financing was carried out under the national project "Ecology".

The preparation of the construction site has already been partially completed. The work is planned to be completed by the end of 2024, and put into operation in 2025. The capacity of the updated treatment facilities will be 130 thousand cubic meters per day.
