In the Republic of Buryatia, in December, work was completed on the liquidation of a landfill in the village of Ust-Barguzin in the central ecological zone of the Baikal Natural Territory. Currently, the acceptance of the completed works is underway.

The spontaneous landfill is classified as the most dangerous objects of accumulated environmental damage, which are liquidated under the federal project "Clean Country" of the national project "Ecology".

Ust-Barguzin is one of the largest settlements on Lake Baikal, seven thousand people live here. The village is located on the left bank of the Barguzin River, where it flows into the Barguzin Bay. This place is the center of ecological tourism - the directorate of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Reserved Podlemorye" is located in the village. Many tourists come every year to admire the beauty of Lake Baikal.

"The human factor caused the littering of the natural territory. The waste has been stored for several years, creating environmental problems and causing confusion to travelers. Now the territory has been cleared, and nothing reminds that there was a dump in this place quite recently," said Murad Kerimov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia.

During the work, almost 200 thousand cubic meters of solid municipal waste were removed and eliminated. Nine hectares of land exposed to the negative impact of accumulated environmental damage have been restored.
