Preliminary results of the implementation of the national project "Ecology" in 2022 were discussed at the site of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia during a meeting of the public expert council on the national project "Ecology". It was attended by First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Konstantin Tsyganov, Chairman of the Public Expert Council Rashid Ismailov, heads of project offices of federal projects, representatives of relevant departments of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, experts and heads of scientific institutes and environmental organizations.

"Everything that is being done within the framework of the national project "Ecology" is aimed at results. We do not deviate from the planned plans. Key measures to achieve the indicators of the national project have been provided with funding, we have made every effort to ensure that the regions will be able to continue fulfilling their tasks from January 1, 2023," Konstantin Tsyganov said.

During the meeting, Deputy head of the departmental project office Maxim Farafontov shared the results of the implementation of the national project "Ecology" in 2022, he spoke about the achieved targets and the parameters of cash execution. The main directions of the implementation of the national project for 2023-2024 are outlined, as well as the creation in the longer term of a new federal project combining the efforts of the state to preserve and restore the country's water bodies.

So, according to the results of 2022, 55 objects of accumulated damage were eliminated under the federal project. The leader in the elimination of landfills was the Central Federal District – 29 landfills.

Thanks to the federal project "Improvement of the Volga", in 2022 the construction and reconstruction of 77 wastewater treatment plants was completed in 14 regions of the country, as a result of which the volume of wastewater discharge into the Volga decreased by 23%. The largest are in the Moscow, Vologda and Ivanovo regions, as well as in Moscow. The events were also held in the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain - 20.96 thousand hectares of rivers and lakes of water bodies of the Lower Volga were restored here.

To protect Baikal within the framework of the national project "Ecology" last year, work began on the reconstruction of sewage treatment plants in Ulan-Ude, the largest settlement that has a direct impact on the Selenga River and Baikal. The work is planned to be completed by the end of 2024, and put into operation in 2025. The capacity of the updated treatment facilities will be 130 thousand cubic meters per day.

In 12 participating cities of the Clean Air project, it was possible to implement measures that reduced emissions of pollutants by more than 223 thousand tons, that is, by 9% of base emissions. For this purpose, seven boiler houses have been closed or modernized, more than 30 kilometers of gas pipeline to one thousand houses have been laid. Cities have received a new eco–friendly urban transport - 507 trams, trolleybuses and buses have already entered the routes. Moreover, during the year, a list of cities that will additionally join the federal project in 2023 was determined. A total of 41 cities will participate in the federal project. These are mainly cities of Siberia and the Far East.

"Traditionally, we checked in person on the entire national project. A professional review of all federal projects took place with the participation of the management of the project offices. The effectiveness of public expert monitoring largely depends on the openness of officials. I am glad that we have established such a dialogue with our colleagues," Chairman of the Council Rashid Ismailov summed up the meeting.
