The Republic of Buryatia and the Irkutsk Region will receive co-financing from the federal budget for the elimination of unauthorized landfills in the central ecological zone of the Baikal Natural Territory. This order was signed by the Chairman of the Government of Russia Mikhail Mishustin. The total amount of allocated funds is 102.9 million rubles.

With the help of federal funds, seven landfills with a total area of more than 28 thousand square meters will be liquidated in the Irkutsk region, and 12 landfills with an area of more than 219 thousand square meters in Buryatia. This will reduce the amount of pollution entering Lake Baikal together with wastewater, and preserve the unique ecosystem of the lake.

The funds are provided for in the federal project "Preservation of Lake Baikal". Its main goal is to improve the ecological condition of Lake Baikal, including by reducing the volume of polluted effluents into the lake and other reservoirs of the Baikal natural territory, as well as by cleaning contaminated facilities.
