According to the forecast of Roshydromet, the Irkutsk region and the Republic of Buryatia expect heavy precipitation in the second half of the month, which will affect the volume of inflow to Lake Baikal. In August, the service predicts 4400-5400 cubic meters per second, at a rate of 4260 cubic meters per second. The volume of inflow as a whole for the third quarter is 116-141% of the norm.

"The gradual increase in costs, which began at the end of July, allows us to keep Baikal at safe levels. Despite the prolonged rains in July and the inflow is higher than normal, the lake has not yet filled up to the normal retaining level (NPU) – 457 meters TO. Today its value is 456.92 meters," said the head of the Yenisei BVU Sergey Kapustin.

The volume of discharges will be promptly adjusted as the hydrological situation develops. An extraordinary meeting of the interdepartmental working group is scheduled for August 17.
