Lake Baikal levels keep dropping
“The lake is 6 cm lower than the critical point now, and the forecast is negative, said Roman Vilfand, the head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, at the press-conference on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. To date, the Lake Baikal level is 6 cm lower than the threshold value which is 456 meters as per the Pacific scale", said Vilfand.
According to him, the problem of Lake Baikal levels “has been discussed for the last four years, but right now this level is lower than in 2015-2017. We expect the lowest level by May 1”, said the head of the Hydrometeorological Center.

The portal has been created for FSBI ”Informational and Analytical Center for Development of Water Bodies and Associated Properties” under the special program “Protection of Lake Baikal and Socio-Economic Development of the Baikal Natural Preserve for 2012-2020.”
