Environmental monitoring of Lake Baikal

State of shores and bottom of water bodies

Results of observations of the shores and bottom state in 2016

Two types of pictograms are used to reflect the measured rate of change in the shoreline and change the topography of the bottom of water bodies.
When hovering of the cursor on the icon, a window will appear, that shows the name of the water body, the observation point and the rate of change of the coastline or bottom relief according to data of 2016.

Observations showed, that in connection with low water content, the equipped and fixed profile sections at the sites of the Irkutsk, Bratsk reservoirs and lake did not undergo special changes, the depleted part of the shallow, mainly in the spring, was deformed.

For more information on abrasion of the shores of lakes and coastal erosion of rivers in 2016, see the page "Exogenous geological processes" of this site.

The results of instrumental observations of changes in the bottom relief showed a zero value at all points of measurement. Therefore, when hovering the cursor over the day's data icon, 0 will always be displayed according to the published data.
