30 hunting reserves as well as Specially Protected Natural Area of federal and regional significance are located within the Baikal Natural Area, occupying 3,429.0 hectares.
The natural conditions of the districts (topography, climatic conditions, forage base) located within the boundaries of the Baikal Natural Territory are favourable for operation of hunting and game resources.
The following ungulates are available for commercial hunting - elk, Manchurian deer, roe deer, musk deer and wild boar. For ungulates, the main available food is herbage in summer, while in winter young shoots of birch, aspen, willow and larch for elk, red deer and roe deer, root vegetation and pine nuts for wild boar. The main feed of musk deer is grass, mosses and lichens. The fur production is mainly achieved through hunting for sable, squirrel, Siberian weasel, fox and white hare.
