The Federal Target Program “Protection of Lake Baikal and Socio-Economic Development of the Baikal Natural Territory for 2012-2020”

The Federal Target Program “Protection of Lake Baikal and Socio-Economic Development of the Baikal Natural Territory in 2012-2020” provides for a set of measures to evaluate the ecological state of the territories, to develop and implement state support mechanisms aimed at reducing and cleaning up of the environmental damage caused by past economic activities, to develop a system of specially protected natural territories of federal significance, as well as to implement other measures to protect Lake Baikal and the Baikal natural territory against the adverse effect of anthropogenic, man-made, and natural factors.

Implementation of measures of the Federal Target Program (FTP)

Conservation of the unique Lake Baikal ecosystem is undoubtedly the state task, and the Program is thus primarily funded by the federal budget and budgets of constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

Government customers for the Federal Target Program “Protection of Lake Baikal and Socio-Economic Development of the Baikal Natural Territory for 2012-2020” are
- Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation;
- Federal Agency for Subsoil Use;
- Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Management;
- Federal Water Resources Agency;
- Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Utilities of the Russian Federation;
- Federal Fisheries Agency;
- Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.

Information on the implementation of measures of the Federal Target Program (according to government customers)

Irkutsk Region, the Republic of Buryatia and Zabaikalsky Krai are also take part in the implementation of measures of the Federal Target Program.
Implementation of certain Program measures will ensure favorable living conditions for population of the Baikal natural territory.
