Fire in the Territory of Pribaykalsky Forest Area has been Supressed
The forest fire of 1,250 ha in the territory of Pribaykalsky forest area has been supressed on May 14.
The fire-fighting activities, which started on May 7, were complicated by the weather conditions and ground profile. From 6 to 16 units of equipment were involved; the fire area was examined with the help of a patrol airplane with the airplane observer.
The employees of Zapovednoe Pribaykalye, airborne troopers of the fire service of Irkuts Airbase and employees of the Fire-Chemical Station of the Regional Forest Fire-Fighting Centre of the Irkutsk Region were involved in fire suppression. In addition, on May 9-10, 30 volunteers from “Otryad 15.08” took part in the forest fire fighting. The management of Zapovednoe Pribaykalye Federal State-Funded Institution would like to thank everybody for the help.
From 12.00 of May 13, 2019, due to the decrease of the fire hazard class the issue of permits to visit the local Listvyanskoe, Pribaykalskoe, Bolsherechenskoe, Polovinskoe, Baikalskoe forest areas has been resumed.

In 2024, the festival of ice sculptures on Lake Baikal is scheduled for the period from February 15 to 28. During these two weeks, the lake shore will turn into a real open-air museum, where everyone will be able to enjoy sculptural masterpieces created from ice.
The portal has been created for FSBI ”Informational and Analytical Center for Development of Water Bodies and Associated Properties” under the special program “Protection of Lake Baikal and Socio-Economic Development of the Baikal Natural Preserve for 2012-2020.”
