Special Control of Measures to Prevent Natural Fires in Special Protected Natural Areas

As of May 6, 2019, 166 natural fires were registered in the territory of 17 nature reserves and 11 national parks. The fire area totalled 49,248 ha, including 1,466 ha of forests.

Earlier the Ministry for the Protection of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation instructed the heads of subordinate agencies to broaden the fire safety efforts considering the establishing and anticipated unfavourable fire situation. Special attention is paid to the Far East and Siberian Federal Districts.

Extensive preventive measures are being taken in the Special Protected Natural Areas and populated areas.

Today the exhaustive fire safety measures are being taken in the all federal districts and in the territory of nature reserves and national parks.

In particular, the combined exercise with the concerned executive bodies of the Russian Federation subjects and local bodies has been conducted to improve the management of emergencies connected with natural fires and to coordinate the interregional manoeuvring of manpower and equipment for natural fire fighting operations.

Considering geographical peculiarities of the regions, the fire safety measures designed to prevent the threat of a natural fire movement to the lands of other categories, to populated areas and economic entities are being taken out the funds of the subsidies for financial support of the governmental assignments in 2019.

Moreover, the contracts (agreements) on cooperation in the field of natural fire monitoring and extinguishing are being concluded with the specialized fire brigades, services and organizations. The timely interdepartmental exchange of information about development of natural fires has been established with the Ministry for Emergency Situations and Federal Monitoring Service of the Federal Forestry Agency. Measures are being taken to introduce in due time the state of emergency in forests in case of fire situation aggravation, including where confirmed by the monitoring data (space, aviation, land-based). The mass media have been engaged to inform the population about the fire safety requirements and details on increased fire danger in forests, including via the Internet.

Currently, the Ministry for the Protection of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation is implementing the order of the Russian Federation Government concerning delegation to Avialesookhrana Federal State-Funded Institution of the powers for aviation protection of forests from fire in the Special Protected Natural Areas. The above powers will ensure efficient taking of measures in the field of aviation protection of forests from fires in the Special Protected Natural Areas.
