Winter recreation at Baikal grows in popularity

Irkutsk Oblast’s Tourism Bureau reports that the region’s income from tourism in the 1st quarter of 2014 has grown compared to the same period of 2013 to 466.5 million roubles.

Hotel guests in the Angara area rose by 21 percent, more than 100 thousand overall. According to the National Geographic’s readers, the best place for winter recreation is Western Baikal. Finland’s Lapland is second-best, and Austria is third.

This shows that we have done away with old stereotypes about Baikal in the winter, as numerous tourists coming to the Angara area in the cold season, for large-scale events and festivals, can attest to this.
