Environmental monitoring of Lake Baikal

State of shores and bottom of water bodies

Results of observations of the shores and bottom state in 2017

Within the limits of BNT (Baikal Natural Territory) any instrumental observations of the rate of changes in bottom relief in 2017 were not carried out.

Two types of pictograms are used to reflect the measured rate of change in the shoreline and change the topography of the bottom of water bodies.
When hovering of the cursor on the icon, a window will appear, that shows the name of the water body, the observation point and the rate of change of the coastline or bottom relief according to data of 2017.

Observations made in 2017 at the monitoring sites showed that due to low water level in the Lake Baikal basin, the equipped and fixed profile sections, with few exceptions, did not undergo any significant changes. The revealed coastal collapses were observed mainly in spring period.
